What The 160.com.au Zapier App Does

When something happens in one app, Zapier tells 160.com.au to act. A new order in Shopify becomes a confirmation text. A form filled in on Typeform becomes a one-time passcode that verifies the mobile number before the lead reaches your CRM. A reply to one of your messages lands in Slack while the conversation is still warm. Zapier watches the trigger, 160.com.au sends the text over Australian carrier routes, and the delivery report comes back into your account as usual.

How To Connect 160.com.au To Zapier

Sign in to Zapier and create a new Zap. Choose the app that will start it, for example Shopify or Google Forms, then choose 160.com.au as the app that acts. When Zapier asks you to connect your 160.com.au account, enter your 160.com.au username and your SMS Secret. The SMS Secret is on the Profile page of your 160.com.au account; it is not your login password. Test the step, map the mobile number and message text from the trigger, and turn the Zap on. The whole thing takes about five minutes; each step is shown with screenshots in the Zapier setup guide.

One thing to remember: changing your 160.com.au password generates a new SMS Secret, so any existing Zaps must be reconnected afterwards.

Triggers And Actions

Triggers start a Zap when something happens in your 160.com.au account. New Incoming SMS fires when a reply or inbound message arrives on your account. Replies are received when the original message was sent with a reply-to email address or from a 160 virtual number. New Message fires when a message is sent from your account. New Contact fires when a contact is created.

Actions are the things Zapier can do in your account. Send SMS sends a text to one mobile number, with an optional approved Sender ID. Send SMS to Group sends the same text to a whole contact group, up to 100 recipients per run. Send OTP sends a one-time passcode using one of your OTP configurations, and Verify OTP checks the code the person typed and tells the Zap whether it matched, failed, expired or was already used. Create Contact, Update Contact and Delete Contact manage individual contacts. Create Group, Add Contact to Group and Remove Contact From Group manage groups. Find Contact looks up a contact by mobile number and Find Group looks up a group by name, so a Zap can check before it creates. Delete Message removes a message from your account. Get Account Balance returns your credit balance, registered number, approved sender IDs and virtual numbers, which is useful for a low-balance alert.

Ready-Made Zap Templates

Templates are Zaps with the steps already built; you connect your accounts and switch them on. Six are live now. Send an SMS when a HubSpot contact joins a list. Text a customer when a Shopify order is paid. Send an SMS when a Typeform form is completed. Send a one-time passcode when a Jotform form is submitted. Post each incoming SMS reply to a Slack channel. Send an automatic reply to every incoming SMS, with STOP and UNSUBSCRIBE messages filtered out so opt-outs are never answered. More templates are added as they pass review, including WooCommerce, Xero, Google Sheets, Airtable, Calendly and Pipedrive. You can browse them all on the 160.com.au page in the Zapier directory.

One-Time Passcodes From Any Form

Most SMS apps on Zapier can send a text. Few can verify a phone number. The 160.com.au app includes Send OTP and Verify OTP as separate actions, so a Zap can send a code when a form is submitted, wait for the person to enter it, and only pass the lead on when the code matches. That keeps fake numbers out of your CRM and stops your credits being spent on people who typed a number wrong. The codes are generated and checked by 160Verify, the same service behind our SMS OTP product.

Pricing

The Zapier integration costs nothing extra. Each message sent through Zapier is charged at your normal 160.com.au per-message price, with no monthly fee, and your credits stay valid as long as you send one SMS every 180 days. See bulk SMS pricing for the current rates. You will also need a Zapier account; Zapier has a free plan and paid plans for higher volumes and multi-step Zaps.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to write code to use the Zapier integration?

No. Everything is set up in the Zapier editor by choosing apps and mapping fields. If you would rather integrate directly, 160.com.au also has a REST SMS API with full documentation, and the other routes, including the WordPress plugin and email to SMS, are compared on our SMS integrations page.

Can I send from my own Sender ID through Zapier?

Yes. The Send SMS action has a Sender Name field, and the dropdown lists the Sender IDs approved on your account. Sender IDs used for marketing in Australia must be registered with the ACMA Sender ID Register; the same rules apply whether the message is sent from the web platform or from Zapier.

Can Zapier receive replies to my messages?

Yes, through the New Incoming SMS trigger. Replies arrive when the original message was sent from a 160 virtual number or with a reply-to email address. The reply can then be sent to Slack, email, a spreadsheet or back into your CRM.

Why did my Zap stop working after I changed my password?

Changing your 160.com.au password generates a new SMS Secret, and Zapier still holds the old one. Open the connection in Zapier, choose reconnect, and enter the new SMS Secret from your Profile page.
