Questions About Connecting Your Apps and the API
Is there an SMS API available in Australia?
Yes. 160.com.au has a REST API on Australian carrier routes, run by a Sydney company and documented on the developer page. Most businesses do not need it, because Zapier and the WordPress plugin cover the common integrations without code.
Do I need Zapier for every integration?
No. WordPress and WooCommerce use the plugin, systems that can only send email use email to SMS, and developers use the API. Zapier covers everything else, which is most cloud software.
Can an integration receive replies as well as send?
Yes. The New Incoming SMS trigger in Zapier fires on each reply, and the API has an endpoint for received messages. Replies arrive when the text was sent from a virtual number or with a reply-to email address.
Do marketing messages sent through an integration need a registered Sender ID?
Only if they go out under your business name. Since 1 July 2026, every text sent under an alphanumeric Sender ID must be on the ACMA Sender ID Register, marketing or not, and an unregistered name shows as 'Unverified'. Texts from a number need no registration. The rule is the same for SMS marketing campaigns sent from the web platform or from integrations. The steps are in our Sender ID registration guide.
Does my CRM include SMS?
Most CRMs do not send SMS on their own, but they connect to 160 through Zapier. Pipedrive, HubSpot, Salesforce, Zoho and more can send a text on a new lead or a stage change. HubSpot can also text contacts as they join a list, which keeps SMS marketing to people who agreed to hear from you.
Can I send an SMS using an API?
Yes. 160 has a REST API with JSON, an OpenAPI spec and webhooks, documented on the developer page. If you would rather skip API integrations, use Zapier or the WordPress plugin with no code.
How do I send 1000 SMS at once?
Upload or paste your list in the 160 platform to send bulk SMS, or trigger a send from a connected app. 160 sends at up to 1,600 messages a minute per account by default, which suits high-volume SMS.
How much do SMS integrations cost?
The integrations are free. Each message is charged at your normal 160.com.au SMS pricing, with no monthly fee, and credits stay valid while you send one SMS every 180 days. Zapier has its own free and paid plans based on how many tasks you run.
What if my app is not listed here?
Search for it in the Zapier directory. If it has a Zapier app, you can integrate SMS with it through 160.com.au.
Can I send an automatic reply to every incoming SMS?
Yes. A live Zap template does this with the New Incoming SMS trigger, a Filter step that skips STOP and UNSUBSCRIBE, and a Send SMS action with your reply.
